Dr. Chris Holmes has over 16 years of experience in manufacturing, from the shop floor, through new product development, to research and development management.
As director of IDC Manufacturing Insights International, Dr. Holmes is responsible for driving the overall direction of manufacturing research globally, excluding the Americas.
Prior to joining IDC, Dr. Holmes pioneered the development and implementation of the operation and technology roadmapping (OTR) program while working for Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), part of the country's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A-Star). He has led over fifty roadmaps helping Singapore-based manufacturing companies develop plans to enable their decision making process in the development and acquisition of new operations technology and product development plans.
Before relocating to Singapore, Dr. Holmes worked in the aerospace sector in the UK, initially as a research engineer leading projects to reduce lead time in aero-engine overhaul, and then working towards his doctorate aiding a first tier aerospace supplier to speed up its new product development process.
Dr. Holmes has written numerous articles and given many lectures in the fields of technology management and product development. He is a certified professional facilitator (CPF) approved by the International Association of Facilitators (IAF).
Dr. Holmes holds a doctor of engineering (EngD) degree from Warwick University, UK, a qualification he attained while working in industry and as part of the Warwick Manufacturing Group. He also has a master of philosophy (MPhil) degree from the University of Glamorgan, UK.
